Monthly Update: March 2022

You might recall that last month I had worried that the update for this month would be uneventful. I postulated that due to the overabundance of projects I suddenly had going on at once that I may be forced to forego animation on Forlorn for the span of a month in order to not go completely insane. Well, I am quite happy to report that is not the case, and I was indeed able to work on Forlorn in addition to all of those other projects. That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, I have now gone insane. But in all seriousness, due to some intense time management, and a bit of luck here and there, I was able to continue my work on Forlorn in the background, and as a result the short is now in the very final stages of animation. Of the three scenes comprising the finale, two are now completely finished, and of the third only some seven shots remain. It is, frankly, quite nuts just how close I am to finally being finished with this short. There’s a very solid chance that by this time next month I’ll be completely finished with animation! That puts me well within the hope of having the completed final episode out by end end of June.

Other than that, there’s not much else to report for the time being. All that remains animation wise should be quite simple - no action, just some small scale acting. It’s still going to take some time, because subtlety is often more difficult to make look convincing than broad action, but I’d predict it shouldn’t take more than a couple of days to finish, whenever I get that chance. Afterwards it’s onto the usual finishing steps - importing everything into Unreal, setting up lighting and FX, doing the sound design, and then kicking it out to my composer. Since this update is coming a bit on the late side I don’t think that will all be done by the middle of the next month, but perhaps by the end. As always, I’ll keep you updated as to my progress. Until then!

Alex
