Animation - Complete
June 3rd, 2019 - Following the Disney acquisition of Fox, and the cancellation of the movie I was working on as an Unreal animator, I suddenly had a lot of time on my hands. I had a project I had began some months prior that I had shelved for being too ambitious. All I had to show for it at the time were 2 character rigs and a half finished environment. Faced with a need to do something productive while I looked for work, I figured I might as well polish what I had already made and whip up a quick little short scene. It was this day that I first put pen to paper, so to speak, and began animating the first shot of what would become the prototype for the larger Forlorn short. Prototype turned to a abridged short which turned to the original long format version, and soon I was swept away in a whirlwind of animation.
It has now been almost 3 years. 3 years of working mostly every weekend, grinding out over 11 minutes of animation by myself. Sufficed to say, it has been a tough journey, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. At the beginning of this project, I thought I would never be able to make it this far. If it hadn’t been for the cancellation of that movie, I wonder if I would have started down this road at all. But looking back, I’m so glad that things turned out the way they did.
There’s still much to be done, though. Lighting, FX, sound, and music all remain, and then there’s the final mix and output. But even so, having a film that I can now watch in its entirety from beginning to end is an incredible feeling, and I can’t wait to share this final episode with everyone. I very much hope you enjoy it!
