Monthly Update: July 2022
Wow, this one is coming in extremely late. Yes, it’s a ways into August now, as I was so busy with stuff that I let July completely slip by. I’ll try and do another update at the end of the month for August, hopefully with news to share! But as it stands, nothing much has changed since last month in terms of Forlorn. Music is still being worked on, and word is that might be finished up as soon as this week, which would be incredibly exciting. But ultimately it will be ready when it’s ready, as they say. Toft has done an amazing job with the score, and I can’t wait to see how he brings it all home.
Other than that, my last month has been an avalanche of insanity. Moving to not just a new city, but a new country, has brought with it a slew of challenges, both expected and unexpected. Since the last update, it has been an almost unceasing stream of errands to run, meetings to have, forms to sign, and small fires to put out. As of this writing the transition is still ongoing. I naively thought that we’d pack up, ship out, move in, and that would be that, but it turns out the process of moving has a lot of pieces that don’t necessarily align all at once. I’ve spent the entirety of last week living out of various hotels, and now I am the proud renter of an apartment in downtown Vancouver that contains nothing more than a bed, the clothes we brought with us, and an eight year old iMac for emergency use. I’m optimistic that the transition will be finalized within the week, and that our remaining stuff will finally catch up with us. It would be nice to finally slip back into a nice routine, and to be able to do some art once again. I’m itching to do anything at this point, and if things get delayed again I may just start drawing on the walls like a lunatic (that’s a joke, in case the manager of my building reads this somehow).
I’ve grown quite antsy at how long things have taken, both for Forlorn and for everything else. I’ve been finished with the short since early May, so it’ll have been over 3 months of marking time while the score and everything is all wrapped up. Because of that and the move, I haven’t gotten a chance to sink my teeth into anything significant, and I’m starting to go a little stir crazy as a result. I look forward to the day when the short can finally be called finished, and I’ll have all my equipment to begin the next thing. I can finally move onto a new story set in the Forlorn world, and a number of other smaller ideas I’d like to work on. Thank you all for your patience as this last episode nears the finish line, I think it will all be worth it!
Like I said, hopefully the August update will have more definite news! Until then.
