Monthly Update: October 2021
Just a short update this month. Last entry I mused about how I had hoped I wouldn’t be in the exact same spot with Part VI come a month from now. I’m happy to report that I’m not in the exact same spot, but not by much. Animation on Part VI is done. It’s prepped and polished and in the can, and the edit is 99% complete, barring some minor edits here and there. Unfortunately October has been incredibly busy for me, as expected. My normal job has a lot of stuff going on (in a good way, I should add), but that has been keeping me occupied. As a side note, the first teaser for the film has been released, and it’s so great to be able to show people what I’ve been up to for so long. The film in question is the upcoming superhero film Black Adam, which I have been the Unreal Previsualization Lead for coming up on 2 years now. It’s easily the most fun and rewarding show I’ve ever been a part of.
On top of that, I was out of the state for about two weeks for a wedding and another unrelated event, which kept me from working on Forlorn. It was a lovely break, however, and I’m now back and completely refreshed. Since my return, I’ve been busy doing the final polish to the next episode. About half of it is now finished with final lighting and FX. All that remains is the other half, and a handful of cloth sims, which I’ve been dragging my feet on because it’s the most tedious aspect of the project and I hate it. Work isn’t expected to simmer down for another couple weeks, but I’m hoping to do as much as I can in that time, and hopefully finish the visuals for the episode completely. Then it’s on to sound, and then music. I don’t think I’ll have too much trouble wrapping up my part of the episode by the end of November, but holidays being what they are I’m not sure how busy the Toft will be so I may not be able to kick out the finished Part VI until the new year, which would be a bit of a bummer, but it is what it is. Obviously I’ll keep you posted with the specifics, as it may not end up coming to that. If I have it my way then by this time next month I’ll be able to say that Part VI is wrapped for me, and it’ll be on to Part VII - the grand finale! Until next month!
