Monthly Update: November 2020
It’s a bit early for a monthly update, given I usually tend to aim for the middle of the month for these. But, I figured now is as good of a time as any to post about my goings ons, which I don’t anticipate changing much in the coming weeks, aside from the obvious. The obvious, if it wasn’t obvious, is that the release of Part III is imminent. The cut is currently in the hands of the extremely talented Toft Willingham, and I eagerly await his composition. Once that is approved and mixed, Part III will be gold, and I will begin the admittedly simple process of preparing it for release. At this time my estimated release date is around November 24th or so, it really depends on how long it takes to get it all assembled and such.
Aside from the completion of Part III, Part IV has begun early stage animation. The set has been mostly assembled and textured, with some of the finer details still missing. I haven’t put in any destruction decals or level FX, and the lighting is still very temporary. A handful of quick shots are already animated and in engine. The trick is, however, that I don’t want to get too far into Part IV with Part III still looming over my shoulder. It’s mostly a frame of mind issue, but part of me feels like it can’t commit to the scene if there’s something still left unfinished. So, in place of animation a lot of my efforts have been focused on wrapping up some outstanding assets for this part of the story. Pictured in the header here is one such element. This particular asset was given a sizeable makeover, with both the amber shell and the thing inside getting a lot more polish in the last few days. This particular element was actually present in the pilot episode, though somewhat in the background, and now it will finally get its place in the spotlight. You’ll have to see how it plays into the events of the story as the series goes on.
I’m very excited for Part IV. In many ways it’s what the series is “about”, and unlike Part II and III, I know exactly how to shoot it. Things are looking to be pretty wild for me for the next couple of months, what with the various holidays, an end of the year push for the film I’m currently working on for my regular job, and all the various this-and-thats and what-have-yous that may come along. But either way, expect Part IV to drop sometime in early 2021. And as always, I’ll be here, providing updates along the way.
