Monthly Update: January 2021

It’s been quite a month. I feel like every month is quite a month these days, but the point still stands. As I mentioned in the previous post, I’ve spent a lot of January working on getting things set up for Midnight Scientists. That process has been a bit tricky, because as I’m not setting up a traditional business, it’s required a lot of research navigating what I do and don’t need to fill out, submit, etc. Overall, it has not been a good experience in terms of curtailing anxiety, but I’m pretty sure I finally have everything figured out.

As for the project itself, I’ve been making good progress on that. Part IV is officially 100% complete (huzzah), and that’ll be dropping on February 3rd. Since Part IV also represents generally the halfway point for the project, I cut together a trailer for the short with footage from all the episodes, some of Part V, and a few trailer specific shots for stuff coming down the road. I’ll be throwing that around early next week, I’m thinking.

Part V, in the meantime, is progressing at the usual pace. I feel like it’s been going a lot slower than I’d like, though it’s mostly in my head. The last four parts were able to get kicked faster than I had anticipated, but there was a lot going for them in terms of simplicity. Part V and beyond, as I’ve mentioned before, are far more complicated, and have far more shots to do. Part V, for example, currently has around 35 shots in it, compared to Part I, which only had something like 16. The shots in Part V are generally shorter in length, but it’s still a lot to get through. This month I was able to get through around seven shots, so while in any of the other episodes I’d be like halfway done, I’m barely a quarter of the way through at this point. So you can see why I’m thinking it’s going “slow”, despite the pace being probably quite good. And I’m very happy with what I have so far, so it’s a good start.
